Before I start collecting parts to do the 63" swap in the rear I'd like to see how it looks with 31" tires and im having a hard time finding images of that setup online. Want to know if the springs, after getting moved forward 11", will be more of an obstacle obstruction as opposed to aid.

anyone have this setup or know anyone with it? ideally a side shot.

i may still do it as the rear suspension has been squeaking for years and it hurts when i go over potholes but i'd like to know what im getting into before i do it.

i suppose if i dont run the overload leave and just stick with 3 leafs it will reduce the snag factor on the trail but im open to suggestions. i dont care if it just plain looks weird, thats not a concern (should be on 33s in a year).

i've got too much life left in these 31s to justify a 33 purchase. even with the big o tire sale this weekend (buy 2 tires get 2 free), even though it's mighty tempting!

here is a picture of my truck with 32's on 63" springs. I have since removed the 3rd" leaf spring on the 63's. There were off a 4wd chevy. I delt with the rear SUPER raked for a little bit but it needed to go. After removing the leaf, it sat much more level, and rode a hell of alot better. I had abosulty no flex with the other leaf installed. When i get the front ifs lift from my buddy i will probally end up installing blocks in the rear instead of reinstalling the leaf i took out. Hopefully this helps

My old-man has 63's and we love them! 33's looked a little small but w/e.
Those springs are plain awesome. We can go over washboards, pot holes, etc and you barely feel them. Like riding in a Caddy.... I think all we did was take the over load spring out.

I feel your pain, the springs on my 4runner are tired and worn and I wouldn't mind getting a set some time soon.

31s are way too small for the 63 chevys IMO. You could easily run a 33 and I would probably look at a 35 if it was me.

If you're set on the 31s I would do the rears to fronts, and smaller chevy rears.

Sorry i was in a crazy hurry so I didnt explain. I am in a hurry now as well go figure lol... Anyways I dont like how long they are especially for rear aproach angle. They do ride nice and flex well but if I only had 31s they would look rediculous. I agree with LOWE 100% for your application but that is just my 2 cents

thanks for the pictures guys.

looks like it may be overkill for 31 and even 33 inch tires. im reconsidering at the moment... swaying towards a chevy 52". any thoughts on that?

cant do RUF. im IFS till summer. I just gotta get this rear fixed asap. soon as the new engine and clutch are in, im onto the rear suspension. so.. i've got about another 2-3 weeks of thinking time left.

31 inch tires

I just finished doing my 63 inch swap and I think it looks great with the 31's. I started I used the 3 main leaves and the overload from an 01 2500hd diesel and it flexes awesome and rides great. Looks very symmetrical. I relocated with mid 90's f150 shocks in the rear.

I'm too lazy to post a picture, but if you want an email I can send it to you. This is on an 85 4runner.

I know someone that with some 57" F150 springs. Not sure of the details, but they look good, flex good, and aren't quite as long!

57" does sound like a better choice. not much info out there on that specific setup though. not to mention no ubolt flip kits (not even sure if they'd be needed)

however, i recently noticed this thread ZUK Coil Mod .....an email received - YotaTech Forums

or http://www.gearinstalls.com/coilnoweld.htm

and had totally forgotten about this simple spring mod (had read about it before i even purchased my 4runner). i think i will do this, as its the least labor intensive and equally priced as a spring swap (or cheaper). my only concern would be flex on the trail, just need to look into how trail friendly the setup is before i pull the trigger. also, i'd prefer no cutting/bending so i'll have to look into bigger springs too.

on road comfort/performance reviews are great from all who've done it.

Dont do the zuk mod its just a band aid to keep worn out springs alive. But...Some love it, and some hate it. And its cheap enough to try for yourself.

And yes, there is a ton of info on the f150 swap : F150 spring swap - Pirate4x4.Com

Heres a great leaf spring chart: http://littlekeylime.com/MrN/mrnimages/leaf_springs.png

Happy reading!

thanks for the response, rattle, will help a lot with planning next step.

i just had to do the zuk. as soon as i found out it was doable without any cutting when using the TJ front springs, i picked up a pair today from craigslist ($40) a little steep maybe but ebay had them all at the same price when counting shipping (or more).

i know its a bandaid. but im planning an SAS and gears this summer. a bit over budget with a new engine, headers+cat and clutch going in next week. (just waiting on the engine to arrive from 22reperformance.com ) so the zuk will have to do for now.

if the zuk is fine or even ok, ill stick with it till next year. i'll still do the SAS swap but will wait for the need for new tires and decided on f150 or 63" depending on if i want 35s or 33s. gearing is going to be a headscratcher now as i'd like to future proof but going over 4.88 on 33s in a daily driver might be silly. will look into others' opinions on that when the time for that gets closer.

worst case scenario, im out $40. just means i have to stay home 1 night next weekend and pretend thats what i spent on beers.

gonna try the install without spring compressors. i've got a safe idea in my head that i think will work. will log with pictures and post if its successful.

again, thanks for those links, and everyone's input (and images)
