Have an 86 HJ 24volt rig; that the shop said compressor was bad..have an 87 FJ60 parts rig 12v.

The plumbing on top looks same..can I use the 12v unit or do I need to swap to the 24v clutch?

Some things are not voltage specific..a clutch is simply a magnet…but don’t want to mess things up…nor do I want to do more work if not needed..plus not quite sure how to pull the clutches either…

Anyone know for sure?

Anyone replaced an ac clutch have tips/tricks?

Thankyou!!

It's an electromagnet, not just a magnet. An electromagnet is a coil of wire. On DC, the amount of power that flows through a wire goes up with the square of the voltage. In other words, if you double the voltage (going from 12v to 24v), 4x the power will go into electromagnet. It will work briefly before going up in smoke as the coil overheats and burns.

You will need to swap the coil over at the minimum if everything else is the same.
