Get the rear axle too and run an FJ60 e-brake.

after reading a lot on the same topic, that's what i'm goin to do with my fj62 axles...no real reason to try and go for a transfercase mounted setup. costs more and shortens your rear driveshaft

The backing plates from 81-later 60 axle are the same as 81-later 40 axle.

60 rear brakes will not fit a 1980-earlier axle housing. Bolt pattern & offset are different.

Well thanks for bursting my bubble I was feelin pretty good about this, Well it looks like a 81 rear is what I need or just go to rear disc brakes with a ebrake.Or a driveshaft disc brake.Man a fre makes one for a one piece case but not for the split case does anyone else make one?

Well I was searching and found Steve's (POSER) thread on installing a 5 speed and splitcase in a 79 40 and it has a parking brake conversion on it, MAF sells it SOR sells it, It looks like all toyota parts, reading and searching more I see that there was a 60 that had the parking brake on a splitcase from the factory any Idea what year that was?? I will dig more and try to find toyota part#s any help would be appreciated.

i think that was all 60s and 62s

I belive that not all 60's came with the parking brake on the transfercase. The one I will have is from a 83-84 60 and it does not have a parking brake.

oops, i misread that...

i was sayin that i thought all 60s and 62s have the drum brake mounted ebrake.

i guess i should clarify...i meant the drum brakes at the axle, not the transfercase, ha ha

Then 70's had to use the same splitcase transfercase as the 40's and 60's just with a parking brake on it, Maybe this is where the parts come from to convert to a parking brake. thanks for the info.

After searching and asking questions about this type parking brake conversion I have decided to build a disc brake setup for the split case,I have read alot about different types of disc brake setups this would be the best way to do this.(IMO) Now off to the bone yard.
