What size tires on it currently? 6" is generally for 37"+ setups.
Biggest thing you will want to look at with a setup like that is making sure the front-end has been properly addressed. At that height you will likely be looking at caster plates with caster bushings too. With that it should probably had a DC/CV drive-shaft up front since the joint angles are gonna be out of whack.
As far as drivability, as long as there aren't any drive-line vibs and the sway bars are still on it, I'd say it should be about like any other lifted 80. Gearing and tire size will govern the "seat of the pants" acceleration and braking feel. Don't know much about the IM springs and shocks, so I can't say if you are gonna have any slushy feeling with it.
I DD mine but it really depends on your expectations. I didn't put the sway bars back on because I was still waiting on the drop brackets to come in when I initially installed the lift. I got use to driving it without so even when the brackets came in I didn't feel any need to install them. Does it lean some around corners? Yep. Not an issue to me. If you have sway bars and a 6" lift I really wouldn't think it would be an issue. That said I've always driven slower in my 80 than in a car. If you expect it to handle like a car then I would say not to buy it. Or you could buy it and put 4" or lower springs.
Thanks for the replys. Definitely too much lift and tire for ,e - sitting on 36" nittos.
That said, would it be an idea to buy truck as is and try to swap lift and tires with someone? If so, is it an even trade? Or would one party have to bring cash to deal?
Truck is in FL so I am not able to inspect in person. 250k on odometer, factory lockers, new lift and tires, interior and paint redone. Asking 6k. Worth pursuing? Thanks!
Lift swap would be an option. As far a if that would be worth anything, my thought there is if the swap gets you what you are after, I'd say if "someone" is willing to help with the swap and you both get what your after in the end, I wouldn't ask for any cash.
6k sounds decent. "Paint and interior redone" what exactly does that mean? New leather all around and a full respray? If it is one of Shane's (metric TLC) leather kits, that's a little over 1k by itself. Nittos ain't cheap, so probably 2k in tires and wheels and another chunk for that lift, so if the truck is mechanically sound and the body straight then yeah that might be a decent price.
Also, just for reference, an 80 will clear 315s/35s on a set of decent stock springs with no major rubbing or binding driving normal or minor curb hopping. Anything moderate would probably rub some. I currently have 2.5" and sit nicely on my 35s. 4" on 36s would be about right.
Jynx, I'm with you on the mutually beneficial aspect. I was more worried that I would have to bring cash to swap! I'm not the kind of guy to ask for money if both parties are getting a benefit.
Beno, I'll shoot you some pics and let you see if you are interested in lift. Of course not holding you to anything but will give us a better idea if feasible. Pm me your number and I can send a few pics.
