So regarding these threads recently is really making me want to perform a v8 swap on the cruiser. The 3FE has been great but as I want to move up in tire size I'm really doubting the ability it will have in deep thick mud.

After searching and reading many threads on here I've decided on the Chevy 5.3 liter v8 with a 2wd 4L60e transmisison. I'll use an advance adapters kit to marry the transmisison with the stock transfercase. Here comes the problem.....

Where do I get the engine and such from? I could go the local junkyard route and piece it together then have the ECM tuned somewhere. Not sure on the total cost for that aspect.

I was digging around and found this place LSx4U.COM. Has anyone heard of them or know anyone who has used them for anything? They sell "packages" I guess you can say of engines/trannys/ECM tuning for a complete standalone system. Seems like it would save a lot of time on my part. Oh and here are their install instructions... http://lsx4u.com/images/LSxInstallationInstructions0001.pdf

What do you guys think? Would it be worth it for the package deal or should I source locally?

i would go the all aluminum route, the older 5.3's were iron block. the 5.3 came out in 1998 or 1999 so they are available pretty easily.

Post 1 on my build thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/403256-another-texas-ls1-swap.html has some information on where I sourced mine. You want a "complete pullout" with all accessories, wiring harness, ECU, ECU mount box, exhaust to the Y, hoses (AC, power steering). Which means everything comes out of the same vehicle. Also, find a friend with a commercial address to save you $$$ on shipping.

Also, do an advanced search on this forum searching on swap and only in the title. You should get most if not all swap threads to learn what we have gone through.
