Was giving a tour of our farm this weekend to extended family, and was cut short because my 4wd would not work. Shifter and hubs worked fine, driveshaft was turning, but no spinning of the front wheels. This was in both 4wd hi and lo. Hubs trurned easy into the locked position and did not hear any grinding from the front diff. If anyone has any ideas of what my problem might be I would appreciate it. Thanks, Dan

We need more information. Year and model of the truck? Modifications to the truck?

But, the most likely source could be a hub that needs to be cleaned and regreased.

Check the locking hubs. sometimes people tend to put way too much grease in them and the spring can't lock them in. It also could be just the opposite if they got wet inside.

it is an '84 4runner with 4" lift and running 33x13.5 super swamper ltb's. The 4wd worked fine about 3 weeks ago, would the hubs needing grease/to little grease make them go? oh yeah it is open diffs.

All it takes is for one hub to not lock in with those open diffs.
