Not happy dealing with Lexus' complicated rigamarole attendant to trans fluid changes. Thinking of replacing the trans pan on my '06 with an earlier 4th-gen 4Runner pan and dip stick. Any experiences?

It's quite a bit easier to change the fluid if you use something like a Motive Power Fill and do the fluid change from the cooler hoses. If you change all ~15 quarts at once you can also go several years between changes (I'm on a 3-year cycle). Otherwise, I'm not sure anyone on here has done a pan retrofit, but it might be possible if the dipstick mounting is on the pan instead of cast into the transmission case.
