4Runner engine swap

I have a 1993 4Runner and it looks like the engine is just plain NFG. It's the 3.0. Wondering a couple things:

1) What is the best, cleanest swap. Will the 3.4 just slide in? Are there others to consider?

2) Who is a good source for plug-and-play Toyota engines? I think the term is "crate?"

Try JPR they have a great reputation and I own one of their engines. 3 year, 75k waranty on their stuff adn they are not rebuilds. They are remanufactured.

If you live in a large town, call the service department at your local Toytoa Dealership and ask them what machine shop they use, and take the block and heads there.

I rebuilt my 3.0 V6 and have bene pretty happy with the results.
It's not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination. But I wanted a 300,000 mile motor that I am not going to have to worry about for a LONG time, and that's exactly what I got.

Im kinda in the same boat you are. HG blew on my 88 4runner SR5 3.0 Thinking of either a remanufactured or purchasing a rebuilt. Remanufactured would be nice because everything is new. A rebuilt would be cheaper. Only severly worn parts are replaced. Given that the 3.0 is a strong engine except for the HG that has been improved im in a debate with myself of which one to choose. I have an auto so the 3.4 is out of the question for me. Dont feel like paying to have the trans rebuilt also

Whats th difference between rebuilding the motor and remanufacturing the motor?

If the machine shop is doing their job as they should, rebuilding the motor IS remanufacturing it.

A Jasper engine for the 4Runner is $3500 +
I am into mine, about $2000, and I have all NEW TOYOTA parts in it.
I just can't see paying almost double for what a good machine shop will do.

the difference between rmanufactured and rebuilt is that the remanufactured is basically a new engine. The specs of the remanufacture meet the spec of a factory new engine. A rebuilt uses the specs of wear. If a part is severly warn then it is replace. If the part is in the wear tolerance then it is reused.

Basically, an engine is new or it isn't.

When I rebuilt my engine, all the parts that were used either met or exceeded the specs of a new factory engine.
