I got the master cyl and calipers from a 95 4Runner to get the larger pistons. After installing the calipers and trimming the backing plates and grinding off the high spots, I noticed the caliper seems way too wide. Checking spec sheets for rotors, I discover the 94-95 4Runners use a 25mm thick rotor. Stock fj40/60/62 rotors are 20mm. Is there a rotor I can use that is 25mm that will bolt to my 79 hubs? Do I need to change my calipers to the pre 94 to get the calipers to be correct for the 20mm rotors? I did discover before purchasing that the hubs were different on the 97 4Runners, so I passed on those.

Can the tech sheets be updated to reflect the different model info (I didn't know there was a rotor thickness difference, others may not either)?

These are on my 79 FJ40 axle (in my 71 FJ40)

The 92-95 4Runner does indeed use thicker disc rotors but the calipers seem to take cruiser rotors down to 19mm without problems. The 91-92 FJ80 uses 25 mm rotors but the "hat" portion ( the distance between the hub mounting and the disc itself) is deeper. You can use FJ80 (not FZJ80) hubs to put the rotor in correct relationship to the caliper, but the problem is that the rotor diameter is a bit smaller than the 40/60 rotors that the brake pads may not have 100% contact.

If you aren't comfortable with the 92-95 4Runner calipers, get the 86-91 calipers. Those are meant for 20 mm rotors, but you also get smaller brake pads.

I'll try it with what I've got for now. I put in new ceramic pads that came with anti noise pads, and I also put the orig vented backers on. I also used the MC/booster from the 95 4Runner (1" bore). I built a 1/2" aluminum spacer for the master mounting.

Another option is to double up on the anti noise pads so the pistons do not have to go out as far. Use the old ones or buy new ones from Toyota (04959-35040 - $25-37). These add 4.3 mm to the thickness of the brake pads which would be perfect for the 4Runner calipers to work on cruiser rotors.
