I must have my head in the sand. What kind of patent and copyright issues can you get into with Cruiser parts. Almost everything you can do to a truck has been closely done to some degree anymore. Outside of copyrighting a name fighting over construction details seems fruitless.
Twenty one years ago when I was the first I knew of to use a bronze and shaft hinge for a carrier while everyone else was trying to use trailer spindles and bearings I was hoping someone would jump on the bandwagon and see the benefits. I was the odd man out getting the critical reviews. By no means did I think it was my idea. I was pretty sure the bearing builders had the idea first. I always considered a certain amount of plagiarism a compliment. I can't live forever and what would be better than your legacy outliving you.
I hadn't heard of issues about Metaltech and Demello.
I have some unique products but quite frankly the square channel base design on the FJ40 bumpers I build is a pretty close copy to
everybody's. I believe Warn was first on that in the early 70's. I'm glad Warn didn't decide to sue on that
Do some more research or call me direct D......
Due to the economy it has gotten vicious out there. I agree that angles, shapes and styles are just that... but others disagree and have started to serve papers of cease and desist orders on design and patent infringement. While it's BS IMO... it is happening. Latest one, I can see a similarity in angles and style... but that's it, but still got served... Big Guy selling item for 1500.00 no customer service and long lead time.. Little Guy selling similar product for 800.00 with a great reputation and service... gets sued...
After all I could probably sue someone for having the same name as me these days...........
I just don't have time for the stupid $h!T!!
