since we were getting way off base from the shim question I decided I'd start a new thread. I wanted to do the 4 runner caliper upgrade and vented rotors while doing my mini disc conversion but when I got all the way to mounting the calipers and the mounting holes dont match. any ideas? I trimmed the rock shield where it was making contact . No luck. wussup?

Try this might help but not sure if you get them over there. Also are the 4Runners there live axle or IFS we only get IFS imports here. So maybe of no use

One way or the other, you've got the wrong calipers if the mounting holes in the knuckle do not line up.

Mark...

Where do you find the part # ? They were purchased from NAPA for a late 80 model 4 runner. Similar to the ones in the pic on the tech section.

The mini parts are from a 84 pickup, the runner caliper I from a 86 IIRC so I would think that they would interchange? No?

This was taken from the article

"The 4Runner calipers bolt on to the minitruck and 40/60 series knuckle housing without any modification with the correct spacing for the vented rotors as well. The backing plate needs to be trimmed about 1/4 " on either side, a task easily done with a grinder or a dremel tool. The brake line fitting location and the size matches that on the cruiser very well."

4 Cyl. IFS Mini calipers are the same as Land Cruiser calipers. (Two small pistons, two larger diameter pistons)

V6 IFS Mini calipers are the four equal-sized larger piston calipers.

I have installed 1988 V6 4Runner calipers on a 40 series Land Cruiser disc brake knuckle after trimming the stone shield.

I have installed 1992 V6 4Runner calipers on a 60 (62) series Land Cruiser disc brake knuckle after trimming the stone shield.

There is no reason why you cannot install Land Cruiser calipers or IFS/V6 Mini calipers (prior to 1995, from my experience) onto a 40/60/Mini disc brake knuckle.

Turns out the caliper wasn't the issue. It's the brake pads. I had to grind off the little wear indicator. Now it fits fine. Everything is on and it's a bit tight to turn. Is this normal?
