Too many projects... ooh, look. Something shiny.
I thought of some of that, but in speaking with some local cruiser guys, it wasn't a big deal. The housing is so thick, and i only did one side of the plate at a time ( total 6 welds). I "rough lasered" the whole thing before and after and noted no aparant deflection. . .
Point was, that the oil in the housing got a bit. . acrid.
