my brother has an 89' fj62 with a 3FE he put headers cat back 3" pipe and a single flowmaster, and noticed a decent increase in top end on the highway.

Check it with a extension mirror. Hold the timing light as close to your line of sight at the mirror, works really well.

Brad, Yeah I've got the same problem. You have to find a spot that has a good line of sight. But davisdrafting has a good idea.

Concord? I've got relatives in Mt. Pleasent. We'll have to drink a few beers next time I'm in the area.

Davis,
Good idea. Of course I broke my cheap extension mirror the first time I used it. Now I have a good excuse to buy a new one.

jklubens- PM'd ya.

What are the pins in the diagnostic box? Is that covered in the timing procedure in the manual? Thanks

Yes, it's covered in the FSM.

You have to cancel the Ele. advance in order to set the base timing. This is done by using a wire and jumping TE1 and E1 in the diag. box.

Let me get this straight

I have advanced timing to ~9 deg. What do I need to do to reset the thing?

Thanks,

Mark

It seems appropriate to chime in here, no need for a new thread.

What about advancing/retarding the cam? Has anyone ventured in that direction? I'll be honest, I don't know if the 3FE is an interference motor or not, but I'll guess it's not. The opportunity to tweek a 3FE is a week away, and I'm reading as fast as I can. The motor will be out, so while at it, what? Just the simple stuff, please.
