Yesterday I had a sudden spike in temperature which I thought was a result of my slow leaking rad, but my patch was still intact. Checked the thermostat in boiling water this morning and lo and behold, that was the issue. Drove around today without it and holy crap it has never ran quieter, smoother or faster! I know it's bad to drive around with a cold engine but damn it was nice. Only sacrifice is my cold feet.. Anyhow, anybody have a spare thermostat lying around? I know most diesels used the same one, just different housings. Lordco might be able to get one in from somewhere, but they didn't sound so sure. Gonna check the downtown location tomorrow. Luckily it's a cheap part. RADD probably has a few, but if anyone's got one for any reason and can part with it, it'd save me a trip to Duncan and that'd be sweeeeet. Let me know, thanks pals.

I have one from a 2lt motor. I don't know if it's the same or not. Check Napa I bet for sure they'll have a 3b one. It's amazing the stock they have.

Good chance the T-stat from Lordco will be for a 2F...even if they say it's not. It's likely quite shallow and wont work the same. I got one from RADD last year and it was close to what that Lordco price is, and for the correct part. My two cents.

PS: It was when I replaced the electric fan motor with the OEM that I noticed a much cooler running truck.

yeah...my favourite quote from lordco parts drone, " are you sure it's a diesel? "

Mind you, I went to Duncan auto (usually good) and the Muppet started bitching about how hard it was to get parts...parts in question were front brakes. Told him they used they same bits for almost 20 years, on multiple vehicles ...so maybe the parts weren't the problem...

Yeah I said it was the 3.4 diesel at both locations and they gave me the same part number. It does look a lot different then the original. Haven't had a chance to test fit it yet because of the weather right now, but most likely it's the wrong part. Here's a picture. Guess I'll have to make my way to Duncan. Unless the one you have will work, Nick. If it's readily available could you get a picture when you get the chance or confirm with my picture that it's the same one? Thanks again

Never been overly stoked on the aftermarket units, I put OEM unit in my cruiser when I got it and your probably due for a water pump..

Agreed^

Also there is an old thread here about why those lordco ones fit but don't work properly. Something to do with the aux heating lines that join at the neck where the thermostat housing is.... if I recall correctly.

havent actually installed mine, turned out to be an easy electrical fix in the end, but good to know about how it works with the 3b

My real problem with the aftermarket units is the range in which it works, it always appeared in the past to run too cold and these little engines like to be in the right range..

Got a nice thermostat from Burnz a few days ago, running beautifully. Started off running halfway on the temp gauge for a while and even got up to 3/4, but it's settled itself out and I've put fresh coolant in, now it's running like a dream.
