Alright, I got the starter problem fixed! Starts up like a beauty!

Well done Thomas

By the way, the easiest way to post pictures is to "buy a silver star" ($20US last time I looked) and the instructions for doing so are at the top of this board page I believe.

I think it is hard for people in other parts of the world to understand just how BAD Toyota is to deal with around here.

There is a real opening for someone in this part of the world to go into business dealing in genuine Toyota Cruiser parts at reasonable prices. (If I was so-inclined I'd become an Internet-based vendor doing just that - probably based in Australia.)

...I ended up finding a wrecked Landcruiser Prado (early 90's, 2.4L 2LTE engine) that had the starter wesintl talked about (28100-54090). I switched the nose cone, which was the only bit that was significantly different and it worked! ......

Now that is interesting - Early 90s Prado!!!!! I never expected a suitable donor vehicle to be that "recent".

With the EPC and the help you get on MUD you can do amazing things Eh?

mmhh, are the attachments not showing? here they are, in order as they are mentioned.

I just stumbled across this site which proves that the "84 suffix" denotes a genuine "Toyota remanufactured starter".

http://www.toyotapartsandservice.com/pub/pdf/ProductCategories/REMAN_Starters.pdf

My guess is that few (if any) Toyota parts suppliers here even know about the existance of these factory-remanufactured starters.

(Surely that > $3000NZ quote can't have been for a remanufactured unit! --- Such a ridiculous price must have been for a NEW unit!)
