From what I can tell, the manufacturers for the Dodge turbo were Garrett and Mitsubishi--both were used on 2.2 liter engines. Looks like Garrett T3s are the way to go.

BTW anybody know what turbo the AXT kit uses?

Sorta, it's direct injected, the 3B is indirect injected, it's factory turbo'd, the 3B is by definition naturally aspirated, injectors are TOTALLY different as is the head and pistons (probably also the rods and crank) due to the direct injected configuration. Having said all that, it does bear a striking resemblance to the 3B. It shares many (if not all) of the 3B accessories and I would think that one could make it 12V if one wanted to.

Yes, you can make a 24V 13BT a 12V. The crank is the same up to 88/08, when both the 13BT and 3B went to an 8 bolt crank from 6, then they are both the same again.

G&S sold the owner of the booty fab turbo a tranny that I rebuilt and installed for him. Worst part of the booty fab was the 5 inch boddy lift, everytime you came to a stop the chasis would slide forward a inch or two.

I strongly suggested he remove it before his trip too South America, he chose not to and he is still going strong somewhere down thier.

Sheldon might remember this young guy, David Shelton?

Heck of a nice guy, received a few emails, sounds like he is having a blast.

I remembr him calling from Oregon early in his trip as his turbo popped, Sheldon put him intouch with the cruiser help groupe in that area.

Oooops, thread sideline.

As soon as I get my new head on I'm going to hombrew turbo although I haven't decided on what model. Everyone I've talked to has done a different turbo. axt, safari, ct26, t2, t3, gt25. I think i've come to the conclusion that any one of them will work well and the 3b just needs something. There is a shop near me that will turbo calc ($65) the engine and supply me with all the fittings, al tubing, turbo and weld for 1/3 of what axt wants. We've even discussed intercooling it. I can't decided if I'm going to have the shop help me or just do the turbo/weld myself and buy the fittings. Ray Hall site calced the gt25 but a new one runs almost 1k but it is nice in the lastest garrett turbos.

That's mighty generous of them, the software to do that costs $14.95. Do they buy their customers dinner before they screw them?

Not only that, if you follow the links from the turbocalculator site you will get to a free spreadsheet that does all the math calculations for you. Look at the bottom of this page . I don't know if this is all you need because I'm such a newb with all this, but I'd check it out before I even put down $20 (have to add the shipping/handling to the $14.95).

Here's more free stuff: Ray Hall free software.

Come on Moose you should know about getting what you pay for in your whole injector debacle. ;)

Really it is kinda mute if I want to go with this shop. They roll that cost into any turbo system purchased. It just kinda covers them from doing the calculations and the customer going elswhere. I can understand that. They are a good shop that has done turbos on diesel cruisers as well as 1fz-fe engines They are a turbo only shop that does everything from ricers to giant CAT's, create all their own custom bends/adaptors, help tune the engine but allow me to do all the install. Not to mention they came recommended by probably the best diesel shop in the area. He's been in business for over 20 years. Seeing as how I've checked out about every shop in the area and most only know bolt on apps. SO, yes you probably do get what you pay for.

I'm not trying to defend the guy like it seems because I thought it was expensive too. I can put it another way If I buy a turbo from him he will do a free calc on the engine. I've seen turbocalculator.com, rayhall.com etc. and i feel like i've done my homework on the subject. It's time to git er done. :D

Yup, I remember David. That was actually the original tranny and Tcase out of my 86 BJ 70.. memories.. I gave him a RB kit with it assuming it would be best rebuilt prior to instal.. how did it look inside after 320k km? I heard from him when he got back from SA, and he got home without any major issues aside from the Turbo problem in OR.

Phew, good to hear my rebuild held up.

Those darn trannies are such well built units that the gears look to be in near new condition, its always the bearings that fail.

Your tranny and tcase were in exellent shape, would of guess a low milage JDM unit.

I guess snow board season is well under way and Davids in full teaching mode up in Whistler, great guy.
