I have an opportunity to come up on some Maxxis A/T 315/70/17 tires. I was thinking of running them on my left over FJ black steel wheels I have sitting in my garage. I think they will mount up but will I have other issues? My setup is 850J up front and 863 in rear.
What do you guys think?

You'll need wheel spacers unless you go flareless I believe. I had Js plus a trim spacer on mine and my 37's fit real well.

Gotcha! Thanks fellas. Thought I try some A/T for my daily commute. I will post up if I go through with it.

Bruno, you may not need the spacers w/315's.. but I had to with 16" steelies and the 255's it was really wishy/washy on the freeway. It drives fine now.... the 315's may be a little more stable since the tire is wider.

Good luck!

I ran without wheel spacers for about 4 months (including a 1600 mile road trip) with 35x1250 on 17" Tundra alloys. It drove fine and I didn't have any feeling of it being "less stable." The issue I ran into was articulation as the rear tires rubbed on the frame really good even with 2"bump stops. It was a "noticeable" difference in the look as the wheel offset is greater but wasn't bad. If it didn't rub the frame rails I wouldn't have even bothered. I went with a 1.25" spacer which tucks the tire nicely in the fender well for me. YMMV

Cheers
