3 link setup question

I am in the middle of setting up a 3 link with panhard on the front of my 40. I was wondering if the upper third needs to be strictly parallel with the lower lower links? Or is something like the pictured situation ok?

It's perfectly fine, the upper links function is to control anti wrap.

That is how we did the front of my buddies TJ and it works fine on and off road. Just make sure the panhard is close in lenght to the drag link or you will get binding.

Thinking this through... how will this not affect the action of the panhard? Such as when it is pushing the axle side to side. Will it not create lateral binding?

I don't think so, not much anyways.


I got it set up just like that on my rock crawler. Never given me any problems.

Without a second upper link the axle is free to move laterally. The panhard will be bind free (unless you have screwed up somewhere else that is )

Links are never so ridgely mounted that zero deflection would exist. Bushings move a little so do Johnnies and Heims. As Mace said, you would need two uppers to get any kind of bind. Even then most dont have enough travel to ever encounter it. The uppers would also have to be triangulated the opposite direction as the lowers.

I currently have a bushing at the axle end would a joint be a better option with all of the sideways pulling?
