Yep, Toyota gave you a big treat, they gave you 150 h.p., but put 50 h.p. up at 4500 rpm where you never get to use it. When guys install our Headers they go from 100 h.p. to 111 h.p., and the 50 ponies stays upstairs. When they then add a 2.5" exhaust behind the Headers they go up to 114 h.p., plus move the 50 h.p. down into a usable RPM range. The small 3 h.p. gain from the 2.5" exhaust actually feels like a 50 h.p. gain

I like the torque curve of my 3.0h. I just had to keep it where it won't get any mileage. I liked my motor to.

Some motors are like Diesels and some are like motorcyle engines. The problem is when people assume it's like a Chevrolet or b/c is has 6 pistons they can bolt 35's on and leave the stock gearing....

Another thing IH8 about these discussions is that people have no idea about what it was like for the years of the production. Why people assume it should be on par with anything made today is beyond me.

It is what it is. You can do minimal to change it but lets badmouth it some more...that seems to be working...

You know what gets me? Those old air cooled Porsche motors! arrrggg  Why couldn't they have made them with 500hp and EFI back then? :bang:

DC-3's? What's up with that?

Funny, I love my 3.0

Gets great millage for having stock gearing and 33x12.5s on it, 17-19mpg city or highway use. Has enough power to still chirp the tires off a dead start if I get into the pedal, and will cruise on the freeway doing 70-80 all day long. I guess I am on of the few who prefer the 3VZE over the 22re.

That's where I'm at, it's reliable and fair on gas. Power isn't an issue for me, I've got lots more to worry about build-wise. I can see where if you demand stump pulling torque a swap will help.
