Hello everyone- few months back I tackled this project to resolve the issue on why my rear locker was not working. As a precaution, I purchased a used unit for when I got to it to be prepared. Well I got to it and realized I was totally screwed. Ended up having to buy a whole new unit as I couldn’t repair the one I pulled off my rig and the replacement “rebuilt” unit was a joke. So here is a chance to get 2 rear locker actuators which I am positive can be combined to create a single working unit by frankenstein’ing both of them together.
the first one is from the truck. The actuator rod is stuck inside. I’m sure if you have a torch and good vice bench setup, this is a cinch for you. For me, I barely have a garage to work out of. Free the rod and you can move on with rebuilding. The gears shown below in the left bottom corner are fused together. Tried to pry apart, soak in rust remover and then penetrating oil but no dice. Magnets in the DIFF local cap are loose but I didn’t even mess with them to prevent messing up the polarity. I’ll post the next 5 photos and description on the post below.
