What would it take to make a 2nd gen pickup tailgate fit on a 1st gen box? I have a line on a good 86 gate. Let me know if this is plausible. I tried searching. Nothing came up.

I've got a tailgate from a poverty pack 2WD second gen on my 83. This is the earlier breed of second gen with the lipped early-style bed and side-latches.
I don't know how many changes took place between the generations, but if you can look at the gate in question in person, see if you can do a side-by side.
I don't suspect many changes happened with the internal latch mechanisms, but the dimensions would be different.
If I were to do this again, I would probably just run a net-type tailgate.
