re. off-centre mounting of the engine.

Hey rapovt,

I wouldn't worry about mounting your 2H off-centred. I know it's a little like comparing apples to oranges, but my 3B ('81 BJ42) has the engine mounted towards the driver's side. At the crank pulley, the inner wall of my frame rails are 24 inches apart, and the centre of the crank pulley is 9.5 inches from the driver's side. I'll have to double check in the morning, but I think my shifter tower is centred (side to side) on the transmission (H42), but the transmission is off-set to the drivers side also.

BTW, What year is your FJ40 recipient (ie. is it the pre or post '79)? What year is the 2H donor engine from?

You'll love your new diesel!!!

Cheers,
Steve

Well I got my 1/2 of an hj60 and it is time to put it in my fj40. It is a very rusty ,with a H55 with vacum shift transfer case. It has 206,000 km(about 120,00 miles). I have a few questions;
1) can i convert the vacum shift on the transfer to mechanical
2) I am thinking of changing the 2H from 24 volt to 12 volt. I have heard that a toyota forklift starter will work. Does any body have or know where I can get a 12 volt alternator and EDIC. The 2h's from OZ all ran 12 volt systems.
3) Will the 2H bolt up to the stock 2F front motor mounts and will I have to cut the frame crossmember and floor boards
Thanks

1)I got a direct shift type front "half" off an fj60 (?) from James at cruiserparts.net
Make sure it has the 38mm idler shaft. There was a bolt hole on the mechanical
front half that had to I had to fill-in and remember to put in that plastic oiler for the 5th ear, too. The shift linkage required modification. I used my 4 speed's linkage combined with that on the H55. I'll try to post some pictures...HTH
