Hi guys. I've just bought a 1986 Troop Carrier with 2H Diesel. There appears to be some noise coming from the top end around lifter number 1.

Please check out this video - it's particularly noticeable at the 20second mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_RP5XbK5fQ&feature=youtu.be

Here's some things I've done to try to fix the problem:

- Replaced oil and removed sludge which was throughout the whole engine.
- Valve/rocker clearances (FYI - all rocker pad to valve surfaces are fine).
- Replace ALL 12 lifters as some of them (including lifter 1) had some pitting (re-did valve clearances).

What could this noise be?? It sounds like lifter, but I don't think it is now. Could the cam lobe have a piece missing? Thought I did NOT notice any weird wearing on the lifter that I replaced.

Any other ideas? I would really appreciate your help!

My 2H sounds exactly like that as well! I have no idea where its coming from. I just had the head replaced, and was told everything went back together fine, with no worn parts. I wonder if its lower in the motor. wrist pin or something?

I may do a bottom end rebuild this winter...
