My first post in the Pig Pen!

I am looking into swapping a 2H diesel into a pig. I haven't seen any posts or record of this being done. If someone can point me to a write up, I'd appreciate it. :)

I am guessing that it would be similiar to putting a 2H into a 40/45...?

Just wondering if there is anything specific to the pig that I need to consider...

My understanding is that 81-84 HJ47 motor brackets and mounts is all I need to get the motor in the proper location (with respect to engine height and fan/radiator clearance)...?

Do I need to move the frame mount brackets rearward?

Transmission mounts should be the same at that point, right?

I think you are on the right track.(Im assuming the 55 has the same frame as a 45/47)
If you bolt the brackets to the engine mounts and lower the engine ,it self locates

Certainly can be done, have seen 2 in the last few years. Ill ask the bloke that owned one if he has any info on it. He unfortuneatly has since sold it though.

Cheers

sounds like you are on the right track. since the fj40 and fj55 share the same motor mount bracket castings(on the engine) the frame mount locations should be in the same relative position, so youre good.

If you have a later motor, you can use the Hj60/70 mounts if you find the wedges/isolators from a hj60 series IIRC.

Marv Specter said he saw lots of 2H converted piggies in Oz. so it can be done.

Thanks!!!

The motor is out of a 81 HJ47. When you say 'wedges/isolators', are you refering to the motor mounts (part that goes between motor bracket and frame bracket)?

Hi, that swap that you have in mind is nice and not hard to get it done, I had a 1987 HJ60, and runs nice strong until I burn out. you are still looking for a 2H be carefull becouse is not easy to find a nice 2H engine ready to swap, there are, but not easy to find, i also had a very bad experience, I swap the engine and last me 5 months finally after expanding a lot of $$$$$$ in rebuilt
I had to sell the car, a nice option regards power and lightness, is the HZ engine, those are great and is much more easy to find a nice and still strong engine:) :steer:

keep going, good luck

i havent been able to find the link just yet, but i wanted to link you to an FJ60 with a 2F that did a 2H swap. very similar for some of the Q's you have. he did have to relocate motor mounts back a little requiring some welding.
