CRICKEY!!!

Tks for the pics Swank60

That is one mother of a carb cooler. I have NEVER seen anything loke that on a Aussie Toyota,

Does it come with its own battery? (just joking)

That will give me something to work on. I believe this will fix the problem because if I lift the hood when I stop it starts ok even after 15-20 minites and all the fuel does dissapear from the sight glass on the carb

Once again many thanks for all the replies.
This has got to be the best cruiser forum on the web!!

Yes, I believe the the connection shown is the one and only that wires it in.

toy60 - you'll need to do some research and a)find out why AUS 60s didn't have it, b) if your wiring harness will support it and c) find all of the components to make it work. There's a sensor under the manifold that points to the exhaust manifold, a computer controller, and there has to be some sort of plumbing that connects that fan unit to the vent on the fender - on an American model, when you shut off the truck and get out, you can hear air being pulled through the vent. It's a little weird - but that's why the FJs have the vents and the diesel models (HJ/BJ60s) don't have vents on the fenders - the HJ/BJs don't need the fan.

hair dryer is only usa models because they were emissioned so bad and the emissions causes higher temps which would boil gas and also caused cracked manifolds.

i have recently started to have the same problem except after 15-1 hour, it will fire right up, only to die within 10 feet, then it won't start. never had the problem until the night we rescued treeroots cruiser from napier...did it three times. then, today, it did it while i was up in the mountains. i know at least one of the times, the carb fan (oops...hair dryer) was working. today it wasn't going, but we were also in cold mountain air. we ended up having to pull the fuel filter and dump fuel into the carb about three times (the third time, not emptying the filter, but only half of it), before it would fire. once it fired and was running at a normal rate (solid flow of fuel) it runs like a champ.
i've had the cruiser for six years...this has NEVER happened before thursday night and as the original post, fires right up when cold and if i start it within five minutes or so and runs fine then...it's only if it sits for 15 minutes to about an hour .

The aussie 60 and 70 series have no smog pump or cooling fan or vents. They have charcoal canisters and the crankcase fumes are recycled through the carb.
Underneath the carb is a 6"X8" heat deflecter plate.
Maybe its the lack of smog equipment that allows this engine to have a claimed output of 155 hp without fuel injection
Ive taken mine through sand dunes with the aircon on full in low range and the temp gauge stay under half in 105 F heat.

Its all better Now.

Looked at all the solutions and one suggestion which I have taken for obvious reasons was to split the inlet/exhaust manafolds and put a set of extractors on to the 2F donk.

This seems to have atopped the carb getting so hot and fuel evaporating from the bowel.
It also gives me more power a (Slight) increase in economy and a GREAT little GROWL out the back as a unexpected plus

I could not be happier!!!!!!

Thanks for all the help blokes!!
