All done now time to weld it all up, you can also see inside the button which once welded up will be re drilled and tapped out to 14mm for the Air Temp sensor. Small hole to the right is the ISC air feed.

Off to the welders next Wednesday:bounce:

Once back the Laminova cores will be re fitted and sealed, then were waiting on the new engine so I can work out some mounting points.

Matt....can you take some more pictures with a beer can or something to give us a sense of its size...perhaps hold it over the engine bay or something.

Looks great....pretty nifty fabrication.

My Beer comes in 440ml:grinpimp:

My ruler is 300mm long:grinpimp:

But hope these help, remember the end caps are not on at the moment, I will also be swapping the quick release fittings over too 90 degree hose tails once all is complete and final testing has been done.

Oh....that is a lot smaller than I thought it was. For knuckleheads like me that need the conversion....100 millimeters is like 3.94 inches. So...the length of that intercooler is a bit over 12 inches long and maybe 6 high at best.

cool....

You could work it out by adding the o/d of the tubes plus the 15mm flat bar and 3mm for the outer skin:D but I'd rather drink the beer.

Yeah...I don't know what day and time it is there, but its like 5pm on a Friday here and I am not calculating anything else for the day. I am thinking about a beer and dinner....but definitely not in millimeters. I might switch over to 2 fingers of whiskey.

Sorry for the chat...I'll stop.

Chat's cool

All welded up, just have to drill and tap for the air temp sensor and re fit the intercooler cores. Top notch work too:cool:

Once the new engine is ready I have to work out the mounting points and then one last trip to the welders to have them added. This will be early next Jan 08 then plumb it in.

Well after a night on test for the water not a leak to be found after final assembly.

Each end cap is now sealed with an O ring and Loctite 515 flange sealant which is what the inner grove was machined in for in the end cap, the smaller outer grove that can be seen was just to mark the distance for drilling to mounting holes.

I also dropped it in to have the air flow tested today just out of curiosity results will be in tomorrow.

Well the verdict is in.

Flow of an unrestricted inlet 65mm/2.5"(straight tube) 400CFM

Flow through my inlet 390CFM 65mm/2.5"

Pressure drop 2% under vacuum, this I'm told will be less under positive pressure.

Now not understanding too much about this stuff I asked for an lay mans explanation:D

The reply was it flows as well as a ported and polished big block and has one of the lowest pressure drops he has ever seen in an intercooler:bounce:

Hello. Ive been following your intercooler build with interest. I have got hold of some cores to build my own version. Did you leave the plug in one end of your cores? Does the coolant only flow through the outer radial holes or does it also pass through the centre core?

I left the center plugs in that way the flow is around the outer section rather than wasted through the center, the plugged end is also the end the coolant should enter.

Ok getting there, engine was delayed but sometime next week should see it fitted. Then onto fitting the intercooler and Turbo Manifold and all the pipe work.

But for now the mountings are sorted, just need to get Awill4x4 to weld them on. So we have something like this.

Hey Matt, I've got myself a whole heap of cores, a TD42 inlet manifold and a TD 42 head so I guess I've run out of excuses not to build a TD42 Laminova cored inlet plenum.
I'm going to need some dimensions particularly the length so I know just how long to make this thing.
Regards Andrew.
