I pulled my trusty 2B engines head to find it is cracked in 2 places
both between the valves.:bang:
the precups are also cracked, 4 cracks per cup.

I did not have any probles such as coolant dissapearing, starting probs, overheating, bubbles in radiator or such.

Some mechanics say dont use it, other say you might get a year out of it. 5 years out of the question..

where can I get a new head, does anyone have a part number?
will a 3B head fit, can I make it fit?

These b engines start to turn me down or is it just me that the heads seem of a bad desingh?
So many treads of cacked heads etc....

If you where not having any issues why did you took it apart then?

It is fairly easy to open a 30 or 40 year old engine and find something wrong with it at inspection, fact is however that in most cases if you dont tear it apart you still have many years of happy use with it

Just my 2 cents

Joe

the head gasket was leeking for a while and im doing some mods and repairs and decided to replace it and service the head.

will a 3B head fit and work well?
What about a B head, The b and 3b interchangebilitie treads says nothing about this.

it appears all the B familly heads are different according to the EPC numbers.

what do you mean by epc numbers?
I just put my head back on the block whit the valves polished and a new gasket.

How dangerous is it? ticking time bomb or fix when broken for sure?

If it cracks trough will the engine jam?

EPC...electronic parts catalogue it is the Toyota parts list

If the cracks between the valves open up more it wont self destruct you will just have oil in your rad or water in your oil.

If your precups were not replaced there is potential to self destruction if one breaks off and drops into the cylinder.

Cruiserparts says the 2B and 3B head are the same.
Cruiserparts are not crazy I hope, but I rememeber , when measuring and comparing a few weeks ago, that the 3B had bigger valves.

Anyone any experience with this?

When I was researching, there are both two different 2B heads (pre and post 8/80) and a 3B head that are not interchangeable.

Toyota states different part numbers on all heads B 2B 3B even 3B over several years of production.

In this case I find it strange that they claim the heads are the same. I clearly remember when checking a 3B head to check if it is the same that the valves were bigger on the 3B.

It could be possible to fit it on the block but will it work correctly.
If thats the case it would be a good solution.

What is the 2B head partnumber?
Or the online catalog website and page it is on so I can find out myself.

where can I get a 2B head and head parts in the US.

My local toyota dealer wants 3875 US dollars for one new from Japan.
With a delivery time of 3 months.

I would get the head pressure tested, cracks do not mean leaks.
I had overheating problems , pressure tested and it leaked... Head gasket appeared fine....

3b head on way....
