Cheers Peter,

I got a little worried at one point earlier but it rebounded - even got all the shipping paid for before it dropped. The way the AUD is going there wont be two many more purchases out of the US for awhile. - Although even at 75c it is still value when we have been used to between 50 and 60 for many years.

New Plates

The update is she is a few days out from a stop off in China.

The new registration plates arrived today. In Victoria (Australia) the roads authority (Vicroads) re issues number plates that have been handed back or de-registered. I was able to get this set of plates that were originally issued in 1960. Should look great once on the 25.

Cheers Rob

Very cool

That is one nice plate. How many did you have to search thru to find that one? Now if you can tint the H and 0 to blend in to the back ground you would haveHFJ 025

Thanks - Very easy to find here - A little bit of research to find the number plate range that were issued in 1960 and then all done on line.

Vplates.com.au - Custom Plates by VicRoads | - Vplates Home

The other option I thought of was

FJ2560 - might look at this when the second one is in a road worthy condition. But I like the idea that the plates I have are an authentic standard plate for that year.

Might want to jump on that second plate before some else wises up

So how much longer is that? Probably a few ports of call in between?

OFJ.25 is as close as I can get until whoever owns FJ.25 croaks: Plate Selector

F135, and 60.FJ and 60.TOY are available though. :)

It gets to Shenzhen on the 5th of June - sits there until the 15th then direct to Melbourne - estimated to be here 28th - probably 10 days after that before I can pick it up. Then it has to be road worthy assessed, followed by a visual inspection by Vicroads before it can be registered. I'm setting my sights at being able to drive it by August. Height of Winter - although that only means tempratures topping bewteen 11 and 16 degrees centigrade - no snow. - Not quite top down weather though.

Cheers Rob

Do you have to pay a import tax for the truck and if how much ?
In Germany the tax can be up to 25% of the buying price of a vintage car if it`s not an import from an European country.
Cheers
Peter

.... by the way nice plate but funny you can get the plate before the car is in Melbourne, impossible in Germany.
First the car than TÜV (car inspection / if a historic registration is possible/ car must be original no customizing ) than regsitration and a plate.

...if a historic registration is possible/ car must be original no customizing *)
Car must be older than 30 years for the historic registration.
This registration means lower car tax and the possibilty to drive it in town centers of major cities like Berlin/ Frankfurt/München / Stuttgart ... where normally only clean cars with catalytic converters are allowed ( environmental zones)
Clean Air and Action Plan 2005-2010 - The Environmental Zone / Senate Department for Health, the Environment and Consumer Protection Berlin

*vintage hot rods ( customizing is older than 30 years) would get an historic registration.

There is import duty in Australia - but as the vehicle is over 30 years old it is exempt. I just have to pay GST (Goods and Services Tax 10%).

In Victoria - you pay to have the right to display a number or set of numbers. Plates in Victoria are quite collectable - They started in the thirties at plate "1". The first six were given to governement officials and then to the public. The lower the number plate the more expensive - with rumors of plate "2" selling for $1,000,000.

The Full Story - Importing to Australia

I promised the saga earlier on and as we are getting nearer the end of the journey here is some info.

As soon as I had some interest in Jim’s 25, the first thing I needed to confirm was could I import it. I hadn’t done this before but looked up the appropriate websites which included the Australian Government’s department of infrastructure. I followed the instruction which all looked pretty simple and faxed off the import approval paperwork Jan 10

The process is predicted to take 17 days, but as I had heard nothing I called after 12 just to make sure, and was informed that if I had submitted it, it is in the queue and will be looked at in about a week.

After hearing nothing after 4 weeks, I called again only to be informed that “our fax was broken that day”, so I have to re-submit again and go back in the queue – no favours. This is now the 8/2 and I am calling and emailing to get further up the queue. No avail.

On the 26/2 – imports are still working on 24/1 but mine will be looked at shortly. I call again on the 28th to be told I now need to supply a photo as modified imports are now not being allowed in and I also need to prove that I own the vehicle – which I don’t and are unlikely to if I can’t import it. None of this was requested on the initial form or information. Of course if I hadn’t been ringing every other day I wouldn’t have known this. The Department also doesn’t correspond any other way bar fax and the following day a fax arrives asking for a copy of my licence.

I request everything that I can from Jim in regards to ownership, registration and deposit and in typical Jim efficiency I have it in a few hours and send it through to the department - Thanks Jim

On the 3/3 the next fax arrives informing me my licence copy needs to be certified. I get this done and send through again both emailed and faxed with a request to get their **** together and process the approval or deny it.

I ring on the 8th and 13th which the reply is we can’t comment on application in the process of approval. On the 16/3 the import approval arrives in the mail WOO HOO

The next minor detail - pay Jim – what could go wrong between several banks in two countries – and in actual fact it all went relatively smoothly even though it took a few days longer than expected.

I next go through the process of booking a shipping company and spoke to someone recommended to me, a few that advertise in the Used Car Mag (Just Cars) and decide on shipper called “Wholesale Dealer Centre” who have given me great advice and quote was way cheaper than else where. There was the fear that this could be a little dodgy as their landline didn’t go through and although based on the Gold Coast in Australia there doesn’t seem to be a serious office place.

We also decide to move the 25 across the country in enclosed transport which “Wholesale Dealers Centre” also organises at a rate half of any other quote. I book the whole movement and that day Jim gets the call and it is on the truck next day – See Post 1 I can’t recommend this shipping company highly enough –

So where is it now! – Hopefully at the unpacking company in Tullamarine Melbourne – I have been promised photos and will put them up when I have them. With what we have gone through to put it up for sale, purchase it, let it go, and ship it - what could go wrong in the last few transaction – I’ll keep you posted……

Great!!! Just great.....know you're excited to see it! Looking forward to pics too!!

I sure hope so, because when I checked the ship was a few hours outbound from Melbourne. :D

This has got to be tense, as I tell anyone that asks, since you made payment all the risk was on your end. :frown:

They have it alright. Just got an invoice from them - funnily enough it's way more than I was expecting. Maybe I am naive. Should get it on Wednesday.

Tense -correct. Obsessed also. I have been checking the shipping status and the marine traffic site at least everyday and throwing in the photos on flickr just for good measure.
