Hello all!

Im having some issues with my alternator charging. On my way back from a long road trip the battery charge light and filter light all started to blink on and off very fast. After about 15 seconds they came on and stayed on and I noticed the voltmeter on the dash displayed no charge, it was only at about 24-25 ish volts.
Fast forward about 10 minutes after restarting the truck they lights went out and the voltmeter went back up to charging voltage for about a minute then back to no charge with all the lights on and stayed on until all the way home. I managed to roll into my place with the batteries right about empty from the headlights.

I replaced both batteries and changed the brushes out on the alternator. Its internally regulated so I also changed out the regulator. When I start the truck up, off the B+ post on the alternator to ground its only putting out about 24.20 volts. I did notice that with the B+ terminal wired up to the batteries the headlights get bright and go dimmer when I take the wire off. Is it safe to say my alternator is roached and I need a new one?

Thanks everyone.

I would take a ohmmeter and the WSM, take the alternator off the truck and just measure the resistance of the rotor and stator/field and the other things you can measure. You can also bench test the alternator.
Then you know for sure whats going on.
It's maybe not toast.
