235/85R16's on 16x8 rims?

Anyone ran a Maxxis Bighorn 235/85R16 specifically on an 16x8 rim? Im picking a set up, the tire guy thinks they will mount fine but everything I have read states otherwise... What say Mud' Wisdom?

7" is even kinda wide for a 235/85R16. I've run them on everything from 4.5" to 6.5". What says the manufacturer?

6-7"... I found a set of 80series rims running them... They look like it just bubbles out more... Ill look into it a bit more. Whats the drawbacks of running them on a wider rim? less stable? wear differently?

That seems too wide a rim for that size tyre. It could stretch the sidewalls too far, which could be dangerous. You'll also be more prone to puncturing the sidewalls offroad. I will be fitting 235/85s to my 16x6.5 Land Rover rims, FWIW.

hey the rim almost sounds like over kill for the tire. but you for sure will be able to run those tires on that rim. i run 35x12.50 on a 8 inchs wide rim. for a tire that is only about 9 inches wide i would look into a wider tire or a smaller rim
