I'm at work and don't have the manual, but as I recall it's 3 and 12 (that's for an 83).

according to my 84 FSM the timing is supposed to be 5 deg BTDC with vacum advance cut. but it could be different for different years.

My truck will run like krap unless timing is advanced all the way. I used to have a certified toyota mechanic who would work on my truck on the side:frown: not anymore. He is the one who set my timing that way and I have since adjusted it many times, always returning it to the way he had it which was fully advanced. 83 toy 22R. This probably doesn't help...but who knows:cheers:

From FSM (83 w/o HAC system)

(a) Warm up engine to normal operating temperature

(b) Check the ignition timing at idle. Ignition timing 12 deg BTDC

(c) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor sub-diaphragm and plug the hose end.

(d) Check the ignition timing at idle. Ignition timing: 5 deg BTDC

(e) Reconnect the vacuum hose and remove timing light.
