OK 22re nerds of mud, I have a question for ya. The pickup coil inside the distributor comes up with 2 part numbers 19250-37080 and 19250-35180 (84-89). Both are available from Toyota. The interesting thing is that the 35180 (supposedly for EFI) does not show up in parts diagrams for the EFI models, simply states not applicable. Ironically, these diagrams say some year EFI models are applicable but when you look at the pics they all have the vacuum advance with the mechanical weights (carbed). Confusing, I know. It appears the 37080 is for carbed models but some sites (Yotashop) claim they fit both EFI and Carb. They physically look different but its possible they both fit the same. Rockauto has good photos of each and they track with the 37080 as a carbed version and 35180 as EFI as well. The 90s pigtail plug end versions (19250-35240)(19250-35010) are discontinued but crazy enough they pop up as applicable in the parts diagrams! WTF?! I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated!

There's a guy over on the yotatech forum going through this exact same thing. Sorry, I don't have an answer.

I thought the EFI engines advance curve was computer controlled. I guess the pickup could be the same as a mechanical advance distributor if it is mounted on a moveable plate on the carb version. Maybe the only difference is the plug?

Can you just get a complete reman distributor?

Thanks for the reply! I absolutely can but I would much rather have an OEM pickup coil in an aftermarket unit if it’s available. I might call 22re performance tomorrow and ask them. The EFI one is $150, which is half the price of the carbed version. I think I’m gonna just try my luck and order the 35180. On that note, has anyone else tried an aftermarket distributor? I notice LCE has their house brand as a WAI GLOBAL. Never heard of them but might be worth looking into. Thanks again!

Decades a go the distribtor pick-up in my 1986 Toyota Truck 2WD SR5 22RE FI had an open that when hot would cut off the engine. The Toyota shop that diagnioed it said for my 86 truck the parts book says no pick-up sold separately. Had to by a new $650 distrinutor. I called the dealership from where I bought the truck and talked to the old er gut in Parts. He looked it up ad said that's what the parts book says, but there is a hand written note saying any other year in the series is useable. Sold me an 88 pick-up for $90. Installed it and no issues since. I do not have the part number.
