After installing a rebuilt longblock in my '81 truck,, the engine will cut out and die around 1800 - 1900 rpm,,,,, it runs great until then,, ive been thru the egr system , distributer ,, etc, can not find the problem,,,,, does anyone have a theory as what the culprit may be?,,,, any help will be greatly apriciated,

My runner did that, was the bearing in the mass air flow senser, I popped the black top and sprayed sum kroil and worked it back and fourth bottabing cleaned it up and bang it quit.

Thanks,, actually i have a carburated engine. ( newly rebuilt carb also) ,, so im still open for sudgestions,,, really just cant find the issue here.
Ok you might be running your float empty. Its taking more gas than it can give. Check the filter also does it have the mechanical fuel pump? If so the diaphram might be bad. Also I think they have a steel screen on the carb if I remember right. I always ran the same webber. But that might be plugged.
Oooo newly rebuilt carb ay. Ok gotcha. Its the float valve almost 100% positive. Think I nailed it. But that's why your running the float bowl empty.
