I am having problems with 1986 4-runner. I have searched and I am continuing to do so but so far all post say mass air flow or timing. Here is the history; I started it up and heard a loud knocking so I turned it off, towed it to the barn and pulled the 22re motor. I had a 22r sitting around so I converted it to a 22re by switching the air intake. It starts but dies, I started it again and it will run as long as I keep the gas pedal pressed. I tried to start it with the mass air flow censor unplugged, amazingly it did but then died. I keep looking over all the vacuum hoses and everything looks good. I've been going crazy trying to find out what is the matter? So to recap it starts but dies unless I rev the motor a bit. This is my daily driver, so I am under the gun to get it running. I guessing it is something I overlooked, any suggestions? Thanks
Here is a video of it running while I give press the gas pedal.
