20R Vs. 22R Carburetor 79 Pickup

Ok Guys,

I'm in need of a carb. The PO attempted a rebuild and really screws things up.

When I attempted my own rebuild it became very clear that the PO rebuilt it incorrectly. Also one of the main jets is broken.

That being said I reached out to Trollhole to see what he had to offer. Unfortunately he has nothing for the 20R, but he does have a 22R carb.

Does anyone know if these are interchangeable? I'd like to stay Aisan if possible.

Hello David,

Unfortunately, the 20r and 22r carbs are not interchangeable. The holes at the bottom where they bolt down on the intake have different dimensions. And as noticeable the filter base is different as well.
And the intakes are not interchangeable either. The 20r has round ports. The 22r has square ports.

put on a weber dont know if there smog leagel but where i live no smog and definitly increased h.p. on 20 r have to add fuel pressure reg.

LC Engineering makes an adapter to fit a 22R carb to the 20R manifold. It's like 30 bucks.

Does anyone know of a good 20R carb rebuilder? The carb on my 1979 4x4 20R is in need of a good "going over" and rebuilding. Is there a Jim C or Mark A in the 20R world?
