Hi all,

I am on the hunt to replace my nakamichi in my 2000 LX470. I am not opposed to changing out the factory amp but as it stands right now I am running the stock radio with a wireless carplay screen suction cupped to the dash. I would like to consolidate and just have one radio but I either see people going with amazon cheapo radios or seeing scathing reviews of pioneer/alpine/kenwood radios.

I would very much like physical buttons as opposed to touch screen everything but looking for reccomendations. I have seen some folks with the 03+ going to t'eyes radios and while I see some I don't see really any reviews for the earlier models.

Link to the specific t'eyes radio I am considering: Lexus LX470 For Toyota Land Cruiser LC 100 (1998 - 2003) - https://www.teyes.com.au/products/lexus-lx470-for-toyota-land-cruiser-lc-100-1998-2004?_pos=50&_sid=dbd44f2a9&_ss=r

There's only one review so I'm not sure how much weight I should give that single review.

I've gone through this thread Nakamichi Update - '99 LX 470 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/nakamichi-update-99-lx-470.1066006/page-14
As well as ordering everything I need to adapt to the nakamichi 22 pin connector on my OE harness, I'm just trying to figure out what radio to go with.

I have the Sony XAV-AX6000 and it works great. The installer missed a wire though and I need to manually put the rear camera on while in reverse, but everything else works perfect and it matches the interior.

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm thinking about a similar upgrade for my 99 LX 470 with Nakamichi.

I'm hoping there are Black Friday / Cyber Monday specials next week. I purchased a screen bezel from Amazon ($20), but I need help choosing a new radio too (large screen, with knob, CarPlay).

I've heard that there is no Nakamichi harness for an aftermarket radio, but is there a standard harness that can be cut into instead of modifying the factory wiring?

How I’m planning to do it is I bought a 22 pin connector with pins from corsa and will crimp wires for radio onto that so I don’t have to solace into the OE harness.

For the head unit, I ended up going with a Kenwood eXcelon Reference DNR1007XR, mainly because the head unit has the capacity for multiple camera inputs. One of my long-term plans is to install cameras at both bumpers and possibly in the undercarriage for more viewing angles. Another reason for the head unit is distance from the driver seat; my arms aren't the longest, and I wanted to be able to reach over comfortably while driving. I took advantage of a sale on Amazon, and in went the new head unit.

Out with the old (OEM), and in with the new!

This is what I'm running in my 2000 LC. Got the adapter from crutchfield to connect the wiring loop to the head unit. Super easy install and the radio works flawlessly.

Key things I was looking for in a head unit:
  • Volume knob: I love physical controls and touchscreen volume controls are a quick way to annoy me.
  • Android Auto/Apple Carplay support: needed both because at the time my partner and I had both an iPhone and an Android phone.
  • Built-in GPS: This was an extra for when cellular isn't available. GPS is updated through Garmin.
  • Easy reach from my driving position: The screen extends past the lip that's on the top of the dashboard and can be adjusted. Makes it easy to keep my eyes on the road and tap to skip songs at the same time.
  • Large screen: easy visibility
  • Future camera support: The Kenwood accepts up to 4 different camera inputs, and a 5th for a proprietary dashcam. I've added a backup camera that works full time, I can access the camera feed without having to put the truck in reverse.
I got the head unit from Amazon, refurbished and on sale. At the time it was $1300 brand new, I paid just under $900. This was a year ago, looks like they reduced the price to $975, so a new version is probably out by now. No complaints with the head unit.
