Hello everyone. Jason Winkle and I are heading up the first Family Fun Run for this year’s Rubithon. Being a new run, I decided to post up and give you all an idea of what to expect on this run.
The goal of this run is to maximize the experience for the participating families. All are welcome to come along on this trip, but the most important thing is making sure the kids have a great time.
Route: Tahoe to Rubicon Springs
Date/Time: Thursday entry and one day travel into camp. Departure from Tahoe trailhead around 9-10am
Travel Plan:
-Take a nice scenic drive into the springs From Tahoe staging.
-Find already placed Geocaches along the way and also place a Rubithon themed Geocache of our own filled by the kids. (Don’t know what a Geocache is? Look here www.geocaching.com)
-Stop at Observation Point for lunch with a kid-friendly BBQ (hotdogs, etc.).
-Get a group picture of the kids and rigs for Toyota Trails.
-Get our wheeling fix down Cadillac Hill and hopefully get into camp early to mid- afternoon with plenty of time to setup camp.
In-Camp Activities:
- RC Crawler Event, with kid-friendly courses
-Outdoor Movie/S’mores/Popcorn
- Scavenger Hunt
- Crawdad catching
- Crafts
- Kids Specific Raffle
****The in-camp activities will be open to all kids regardless of the run you’re on!***
Other: All participants will be strongly encouraged to bring a raffle prize for the kid’s raffle. Hopefully we can secure a “Kids Camp Area” so the kids aren’t too close to the bar!!! No promises!
Why go on this run?
Happy kids, equal happy parents! If everyone has a great time, the next wheeling adventure is that much easier.
This run is designed for two types of people.
First, it is for the families like Jason and mine. We’ve done the Rubicon multiple times and just want to get the family out, camp, and experience the Rubithon in a low stress environment. My thoughts are that the Rubithon is a great event and I want to share it with my family. That being said, taking them from Loon all the way to the Springs is a TREK, and setting up and taking down camp multiple times, with children, is a pain. By cruising in through Tahoe, we place much less stress on the kids and the parents, get to experience the Rubithon, and have a great time.
Secondly, it is for the families who aren’t prepared to take on the entire Rubicon with their family and may not be able to swing the time away without them. These are the people who may otherwise just not attend. The hope is to get some new family participants and to turn this into a yearly family tradition.
Lastly, if you are bringing your kids you are in NO WAY required to come on this run! Many of the other runs, specifically the Wagon run, will have kids on it. This one will just be geared specifically towards the kids/families.
Any questions or comments feel free to post up here or pm me.
Thanks,
Brian Flynn
