That should quiet valvetrain chatter.

How about timing chain tensioner? If it's stuck, the chain will be slapping on the guide. You said "new timing", but what does it mean exactly in terms of parts replaced and work done? Was it ticking before timing job?

It definitely sucks that our trucks are having issues. The hard part for me is that it drives, looks and idles perfectly. It’s just that damn sound! I had an older retired Toyota tech tell me that some of these just sound like that…. I’m not willing to accept that yet.

The seller I bought it from replaced the timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner etc. he’s a reputable seller who specializes in these, AND I’ve bought from him before so there is a belief it was all done right. His recon process is exhaustive and well executed. I tend to rule out issue there, but as I refine the possibilities, it will eventually get to the point I have to inspect his work too.

* ps, if you dont use chat GPT (or other AI) to diagnose your car issues, you’re crazy. You can basically have a conversation with it and refine possibilities, rule things out, and even price repairs. It’s been a huge help for me (in other situations). It may help you with your noise.

Thanks. I have no issues with my 3URs (2 of them), besides that regular valvetrain chatter typical to UR. I bought them brand new and took care of, and they don't have that many miles anyways. The third, non-3UR, not even a Toyota engine, often puzzles me, though ;)

Frankly, I didn't hear anything over the roof in your video. But it is a video, with compressed audio range, so you perhaps hear lot more in real life.

And I don't use AI to diagnose my automotive issues. For Tundra and Sequoia I've bought 35 lbs of Toyota repair manual, it has everything. For non-Toyota car I own it or same platform cars for over 15 years. Have rebuilt, replaced or repaired most of everything. Problem happens with this 21 y.o. car, but no new problems happen ;)
