2004 LC Wind Noise (1 Viewer)

I recently purchased a used 2004 LC that is as quiet as a tomb up to 35 mph and then develops a noticeable wind noise at speeds above 35 mph. I can't isolate where the noise is coming from but it sounds as if one of the windows is open a crack (but none are). I read older posts about checking all the seals and weather strips so I checked all of them and they look fine.

Any suggestions and comments on:

1. Anyone else with similar experience
2. Isolating the source of the noise
3. Possible causes and remedies

Also, the car only came with 1 key/remote...does anyone know how much it is to buy another from a Toyota dealer?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I also have the same noise - like there is a crack from which there is wind coming in, but there is none.

I did a close inspection of the windshield and I think mine is installed wrong. It is an aftermarket windshield that the PO had installed. This is what the outside of it looks like. Now I do not know anything about windshield installation, but this just does not look right to me:

The rubber strip is all warped - is that the weather strip? Could this be what is giving me all the windnoise in high speeds? Does this warrant a reinstall or just an adjustment of this strip? Ideas?

Shameless bump

Any ideas on whether the weather strip install in the previous post looks wrong or is a non-factor as far as wind noise is concerned?

Your windshield install is definitely wrong. There is a raised, rigid mouling w/ rivets underneath , no flap of rubber.

Damn they screwed that up

Hi,

Yes, I had a very similar issue. Cracked a windshield and went through a lot of #$%^ to get it replaced. The dealer gave the job to a local auto glass guy who screwed it up. Had to get the job redone by an auto body specialist who said these windshields are VERY tricky to replace.

Anyway, after that, my old LC was never the same. Always made noise from about 30 MPH on up...and it was annoying....!! I believe it was caused by turbulence due to the windshield not being installed exactly right....which nobody really seems to know how to do.

Anyway, I would bet there is a good chance that might be your problem....at least based on my own personal experience.

FYI - I sold the truck...uummmm...what year did you say yours was again? :)

I had one installed in my 99 LC in my driveway by one of those mobile install glass companies. He did a great job no problems.

I had similar wind noises at higher speeds and the PO had the wind deflector up there. I didn't really care for it, so I never took it down. as the noise got worse, I, well couldn't find it. Then on a two hour trip at about 80. Bam, the deflector blew off and shattered into pieces in front of the car that was foloowing me to closely. Noise went byby. There are several other threads on this. Try the search. many people have this issue, in older 100's. Mine fixed itself. LOL

Had mine replaced at Scottsdale Lexus w/ OEM glass/parts. They have an outside glass company do all their windshields, so they're aware of the rivets, etc. No noise issues. Insurance picked up all of the $1K tab, no questions asked.

Interesting this post came up, because I was going to create one just like it today.

My wind noise is definitely coming from the rear top corner of the front doors, or the front top corner of the rear doors, on both sides of the vehicles. I looked at all of the weather stripping, and it looks good, and it looks like the window is sealing well. Is there just enough gap on the window, or just enough gap between the doors that it is making noise? I bought some new stripping to help push the original stripping forward to make it more firm, and it didn't really change a thing, noise is the same, so I am thinking it may not the door stripping, but window?

Anybody else have noise from this same area, or have fixed it?

And as note, I have zero noise from my moonroof.

If on your roof rack the cross slats are not pushed to the rear of the LC you will get wind noise.

For those of you who have had the windshield replaced, can you give a ballpark figure for how much it might cost?

Damn they screwed that up

SWUtah,

How badly is my installation screwed up? Are the parts still salvagable so taht I can only pay for the labor at a good mechanic's or does it need parts as well. Any ideas?

Filmpros,

I bought a 2000. The one you sold is a 2001. I almost bought a 2001 though that was river rock green from a dealership in Minneapolis. He was telling me that the vehicle was from Colorado. When I went to test drive it, it was missing the third row seats. There was a looooot of wind noise on that as well and a lot of rust underneath.

It seems like the turbulence caused by the sloopy install is what is giving me the wind noise. At the very least, that is. There might be more wrong with it. So again, like yours - a sloppy install.

Matador,

There is no noise from my moonroof either. However, the last time I was at a carwash, in the air-blower drying part, I did get wind noise from the back of the moonroof and a few drops of water spilled in as well.

I do not think I am taking my LC back to a place that air dries after a wash.

And as note, I have zero noise from my moonroof.

I just ran mine through a car wash for the first time last week, and the exact same thing happened. Just traces of water came through during the air dry. I must hit the moonroof at just the right angle and it prys the stripping open.
