2003+ Anarchy NAV Delete CarPlay/Android Auto Head Unit Discussion

Based on @Anarchy 's input on the cheap Android headunits with the integrated bezel, I ordered one of those today & will develop a bracket for it that'll tie it into the steel stereo/head unit 'rack' behind the dash, rather than just letting it hang by the (apparently somewhat flimsy) bezel connection points.

As the community downselects to a few common options, I'd be more than happy to develop additional brackets as needed to support a handful of radios.

Honestly, a standard double-DIN support bracket would be ideal for me. I'm so sick of screens everywhere I want to drop an old single or double DIN head unit in there and call it done...

Since I'm running my HVAC Module now, I'm looking at audio system upgrades in the coming weeks without breaking the bank.

For those running Teyes/Phoenix/Android headunits; if your audio system has gotten rid of the ML Amp, what aftermarket amplifier + speaker + subwoofer did you wire in?

I have the Phoenix head unit and did:
-Infinity Kappa 603CF up front
-Infinity Reference REF-4032CFX in the rear
-Kicker CompRT 48CWRT674 sub in the OEM enclosure
-Pioneer GM-DX975 5-channel amp
-AudioControl LC7i line output converter

I seriously considered going with a 3-way Focal setup, at least in the front, but eventually talked myself out of it for budget reasons. I might go back and add the midrange Kappas in the front when I get the headunit squared away. Probably looking at an eventual redesign of the subwoofer setup as well, but this was a fairly inexpensive solution in the meantime.

The Phoenix was already installed when I bought it and did not have the RCA-out harness, and I have not been able to source one, so I'm stuck with line-level outputs. The audio is still lacking in a lot of ways, the LC7i was an improvement but not a solution. I don't know if the RCAs would make a difference or if its just the headunit itself, but it makes me wary of any of the generic android headunits in the future.

I've just started looking into head units so I don't have any contenders yet, but it'll most likely be a double-din unit. My main requirements are audio quality and screen brightness. My biggest gripe by far with the Phoenix has been that the screen is practically unusable when its sunny, despite full brightness and an anti-glare protector. It might as well be off if you're wearing polarized sunglasses. The OEM screen in my Transit is clear as can be even in direct sunlight and wearing sunglasses, so I know its possible from a technical standpoint.

My thoughts were something like the Kenwood DMX9724XDS. It’s a 10.1 inch floating screen so it would in theory cover most of the opening and possibly wouldn’t require any special trim pieces. I’m looking for wireless CarPlay and would like to upgrade the rear camera and possibly add a front camera.

My concerns would be the wiring. I would want something that would plug into existing wires rather than cutting and splicing. Not sure if wire adapters exist or if it would have to be made.
