Is is possible to swap a 2000 Taco 2.4 into an 83 mini. I saw a couple on craigslist. HP and torque numbers are alot higher than the stock 22r and the gas mileage looks alot better too. I'm not looking for alot of power, but I do need more than the stock 96 hp of my current engine.

We have not made a late model 2.4 or 2.7 conversion for older 22R vehicles. We much prefer a Chevy 4.3 swap!!! The issues that jump right out on your choice are: Speedo/VSS issues, fuel pressure issues, and exhaust routing issues (i.e. exhaust on passengers side of new engine, and your gas tank on passengers side, and driveshaft)

marlin crawlers early 80's rig has taco 4 cylinder in it.contact them on it.

Thanks for the info Downey.

I know that if you have a w-56 you can put a taco 2.7 in without welding in new motor mounts and if you use the taco bellhousing it will bolt right up to the trans. I think the 2.4 is the same configuration but I can't promise that. The exhaust will have to be on the opposite side and then your usual efi swap wiring nightmare but other than that I think you'll be fine. I think you also have to either get the engine out of a 2wd or swap to a 2wd oil pan/sump etc. Just buy it and do it! I think you'd be a lot happier with a 2.7 though....

That's a way sweet motor, great match for an early mini. Like any swap it's not quick or easy but the result would be a good running reliable rig.

Off Road Solutions makes a swap harne$$ if you don't want to mess with making your own. They also have 3.4 kits and tech articles;

Marlin's swap thread, a quick search will net other 3RZ-FE swaps on his forum.:D

A post with a junkyard shopping list, for engine swaps I prefer to buy a wreck, that way I have all of the motor related parts.
