Hi there all,
After wanting one ever since I can remember I finally have brought home my 1st Fj40. It’s a 73 w/ a 76 2f. Its has been entirely painted with rock reflector type paint but when it was born it seems to have been a pumpkin orange w/ a soft top (although the original dealer card states it as being brown).
The truck is far from perfect but seems fairly solid, especially for the area I live in where rust eats damn near everything.
The ‘40 also came with boxes of Toyota OEM parts, gaskets, manuals, original paperwork, Toyota LC parts Microfiche and service records. It also came with several alternators, starters, 3 additional asian carbs, extra exhaust manifold and gasket, extra oil pan and new gasket, another set of front FJ40 front wheels and axel, 4 new leaf springs, and some wheels with discs for conversion.
Here are the pics from the for-sale ad (w/ 38's and an upside down bezel -flipped as soon as it came home).
My intention is to build a reliable rig for light wheeling / exploring with the family. I live very close to areas open for OHV use, so hiway driving will be minimal. The previous owner had 38’s on it and thus had put a 2” body lift, some very long shackles and chopped out the rear fenders. I plan to run 33’s so I will likely throw some shorter shackles on it instead of attempting to pull out the body lift at this point (there is some reasonably tidy fabrication underneath to reinforce the family cage that would need to be cut out to do so).
This is the '40 as it sits now:
I will be cutting off the brush guard asap as it crosses in font of my headlights on both sides.
Now on to my first major concern... The frame horn on the passenger side has a large dip in the top flap. It looks to be where part of the original winch or some other addition was bolted down.
I would like to have this boxed but since I am unable to do the fabrication myself, I would greatly appreciate any opinions on the severity and/or the best course of action in the mean time.
Cheers!
