Hello there,

I have a 2000 troop carrier fitted with an after market turbo. Goes like a dream. I use a mix of dino diesel and bio fuel which i make myself.I had some IP problems (car wont start when it is hot, but is fine cold) I have been told the Hydralic head is gone as the seals are worn or damaged. When it is cold all is good because the metal has tightened up and there is enough pressure built up, when warm it is too lose.

Can I take the hydralic head thingos off and rebuild while the IP is in place or does it have to come apart to do this job. Mech is quoting on a pull off and full rebuild..

Bosch diesel injection pump rebuild

Its pic 3 4 and 5 on this very interesting link
I would have posted in the diesel section but there is an add on the tittle so I cant do it

Regards

Chris

This is exactly how a rotary pump dies. Hydraulic head,do you mean the distributor head? I guess it is hydraulic as well.
When I had a 1HZ pump rebuilt, the plunger was also worn, because its slides back and forth into the hydraulic/distributor head.
The wear that makes it unusable is almost impossible to see.
There is also the shaft bearings that may have wear in them .

I dont know if you can pull the head off and put it back on in situ.
The guys that work on these things prefer to do all that in a sterile room with their special vice and tools.

I would probably let him do the whole lot,but I would also want to inspect the worn parts and a full report.

How much is his estimate?

as roscolf have said, wear on the plunger are almost impossible, you said that some time you are using bio diesel, which you make your own, my question is, is the bio are properly done ar just filter off & use?

as roscolf have said, wear on the plunger are almost impossible.

Actually ,I meant it was likely there is wear on the plunger.
I have a worn out one in my shed ,but the wear is so fine I couldnt get a pic of it.

actually what i am saying is that, since he is using bio, depending on mix,e,g, 20%bio-b20, will have 3 time lubicity, but if tritation was not done, then fatty acid (gummy stuff) will gum up all moving parts & result with lot of problems.i work on a lot of ip rebuilt & that is how i know.

I was originally estimated 2600 all up for the job but it has gone down to 2200 at the minute because I can leave the car with him for a couple of weeks, He is doing the whole job, so we will see what happens

Hybric yeah I make my own bio running at 100%, titrating it off and adding the (what I assume) is the correct amount of potassium hydroxide and methanol. I think you may be right though about the gumming as I sometimes use straight vegie oil and that oxodises and if it oxodised in the head (distributor) or the plunger bore it could have cuased my issues as well.

I am putting it in today and will let you know in two weeks what the outcome is..

to my understanding ,the gummy residue do cause those problem, well let s see what happen when it`s done.

But why would it start ok when cold but not when hot?
Did you try any fuel cleaner?

Hi Roscoe

Yep tried a couple of cleaners first being Automatic Transmisio fluid which I usually put acouple of hundred mills per tank every now and then, but when this started I ran the car on straight ATF until I went through about 500mls. Surprising what they will run on.

I then tried the Toyota injectorpump cleaner, no good. I did pull the filters off bothends of the punp and both were as clean as could be so that was all good.

they are a blak art those imjector pumps
