1HD-FTE - Lite but constant flow of steam/mist out of oil filler but no real blow by. Is this ok?

Looking at buying this HDJ100 cruiser with 250k kms on the clock and upon test drive and inspection today, I discovered 2 possible concerns. 1. is that their was a constant but lite/transparent puff of steam/mist coming out the filler cap during idle (see here) (ambient temp was about 15*c) and 2. quite a bit of oily gunk buildup around the rear of the engine, possibly a rear main seal leak?

Apart from that, engine sounds and smooth and healthy with no obvious leaks or other problems. Car drives and shifts gears silky smooth with no clunking or anything anywhere in the driveline. All electrics work fine except the idle up button. No problem codes read. Reasonable service records. I get a good vibe from the seller who seems honest and trustworthy. I just don't want to end up with a lemon!

Any thoughts? Cheers

Little bit of blow by but doesn’t look alarming, I think there’s more accurate tests you can do, but it’s an old diesel. Just enjoy it!

Thanks mate. I went with that train of thought with my last (first) 4x4 and it turned into a bloody 3 year nightmare that sent me broke! So I'm being much more thorough this time. Apologies if I am being paranoid. haha.

Did you try the high idle button when it was first started/cold? The fast idle only works until the engine has reached operating temperature once warm the switch will do nothing. That’s what it’s like on mine anyway

Ohhh gotcha. I thought it was for running a winch, compressor or what have you. That's good to know! Cheers
