Hey there, my name is Anthony and I have been a long time lurker around these parts. I have had a good amount of involvment with the XJ guys on naxja/ sold my xj and in the market to come back to the reliable/underpowered side:grinpimp:

I would like icecream and cake, EFI and good off road performance. How do the late 80's 4runners do around the trails here with that IFS? Is it just a matter of just forgetting about it and going solid?

I like the idea of a better ride quality for long trips along with the chances of finding a virgin yota. All the solid axle toyota's I come across are beat to death and expensive. While the IFS models have clean undersides for close to 2grand.

I am looking at exploring trails such as chinamans, old stage, rampart range, ect.. Running 31" tires with a aussie locker on the back for now (breaking stuff sucks! I want to keep it small/simple/stock for now)

I have an IFS 1st gen 4runner. I use it as my DD, my wheeler, my kid hauler etc.

for the type of wheeling you describe I don't find it much of a hinderance. It will take some getting used to as you will lift tires quite a bit.

I've got mine on 32" all terrains on stock suspension. I've also got sliders and a rear aussie locker. Keep in mind that it is really not worth spending money on the stock front suspension at all. Maybe a ball joint spacer and a idler arm brace.

For DD duty it works. It's slow, but it works. For a kid hauler it's a pain in the ass, but again it works. It does everything, not all that well, but it does the job.

Going up hill sucks, especially with the 32's, but downhill / flat ground I can get up towards 80+.

I was looking for just what you were. A stock virgin. I looked and looked and looked for like 4 months and I finally found it. I see stock good condition 1st gens all the time but no ones seem to sell them.

If you are interested you are welcome to come look / drive mine to get an idea of what you are looking at.

I have an '88 pickup that I wheel the beejeezus out of. I have welded the rear end up and it is just astonishing where it goes. Granted it's a little lighter than the 4runner, but not much. It does take some getting used to because the truck goes where ever that front end goes, flex is non-existant. The spacer lifts are pretty cool. What about a second gen? They are cool too.

Ya man hey that would be great! I found one out in crestted butte that the guy says has a fresh motor/tranny and it'd be nice to compare to make sure that ones not tired. With it having 260k on the girl it shouldn't be tough to tell what kind of shape she's in, but it would be nice to have something to compare with.

718-217-5541, I have an appt tonight(going to miss the meeting too)

that's a great gesture and I really appreciate that, thank you.

Thanks Luke, Im a sucker for what that 22r/re is about. For me it's great gas mialage and a Japanese vehicle with a soul. I know it's noisy, underpowered, poop on the highway and well...old but I love'm.
I actually want to hold on to my next one, hah.
