I have the opportunity to pick up a complete, wrecked, 80 which got me thinking about a swap for the 45. I've been thinking about upgrading the driveline in the 45 (it already has late model axles) to make it suitable for towing my 40 on a trailer. I towed the 40 when the wife had a '97 FZJ80 and was satisfied with the performance so this swap sounds reasonable to me. Let me know if I'm missing something.

I've searched but can't find much info from someone who has done this conversion. I can find threads from folks who have put a 45 body on an 80 frame, but nothing really on putting an 80 driveline, sans the axles, in a 45 LPB. I'm particularly concerned about the electronics, shifter clearance, and radiator/fan clearance. Any help would be appreciated.

I know someone(?) on this board has put one in a 40... plenty of power. Lots of electronics/fuel injection, full time 4WD.. Would be a major project but if you have the time and know how or can afford to pay someone else to do it go for it. Otherwise a Vortec 350 swap would be a path more travelled and may get you better fuel economy too.
