I need to order a clutch for my 71 but I saw a picture of a 1f that looks different, I don't want to order wrong.

Check the casting number against production dates listed on SOR.

Most definitive way, although I don't know a difference between 1F and 2F clutch bits, as I seem to recall winding up with the same for both, when ordering according to production dates.

Can always double check on DIY, too.

IIUC you can run either providing the whole kit is used; ie a 1F flywheel, disk, pressure plate, to bearing, fork...the 1F is a much heavier affair(more low end grunt) whereas the 2F is easier to install and adjust...IMO a 1F flywheel and clutch would be beter in one of these heavy beasts...

the thread title reminded me of high school.....

Aren't the input shafts, essentially, the same for 1F, 2F, 3F?

Bell housings?

Just curious.

I know that my generalized "clutch" order for the 1F resulted the same parts as the 2F, which may be explained by what you said.

intput shafts are the same, bell housing goes with transmission regardless of flywheel/clutch combo. the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate/diaphram, throw out fork and bearing must be a set (either all 1f or all 2F). the 1F flywheel has more mass...
