So I’ve scoured and scoured, but I just can’t seem to sort out a starting issue I have. I’ve narrowed it down to fuel pressure.

I’m experiencing slow starts 5-10 seconds and even longer when engine is warm. Hooked up a FP gauge and it builds slowly on starts, operates within FSM for idle, but then nose dives on shutdown.

Finally got around to checking injectors and had at least one stuck open. Assuming after 260k that a new set would cure my problem, yet here I am still with a full pressure loss in about 3 seconds on engine off.

I’ve already replaced pretty much everything in the system (filter, regulator, CC, and even a fuel pump) and am asking if I’m missing something obvious??? I don’t have any fuel smell in or around the car to suspect leaking lines or tank.

Does anyone have a suggestion? My mind says fuel pump but the Toyota one in the tank is about 3 months old. (Had it for my 100 but luckily they are the same PN).

Help please???

After running the engine, I would probably vice grip the return line closed to see if it is the FPR issue. Check to see if fuel pressure holds.

Also, if you turn the key to On...wait 10 seconds, does it start normally?

The key in on position makes no effect on starting. FPR is brand new toyota. I tested per FSM and removed vacuum line while at idle and it increased FP to 38-40.

I would be clamping bottom fuel line at FPR?

I am reading the FSM, and it appears the fuel pump is only turned on during cranking/running.

However, the fuel pump resistor is bypassed during initial start. I would check to see if your fuel pump relay is working.

Forget clamping the return line...I think it is a multiple person job and everyone would have to be in coordination..

Update, was able to swap my tank (which was somehow coated with rust on the inside) to a marketplace find that was nice and clean, also tightened all the banjos on the fuel system and things seem to be better. Unable to test with the pressure gauge since I managed to break off the adapter for the 80. Starts are quicker and I am not having to crank it more than once on hot starts. Hopefully it continues! Check your banjos! I torqued to spec but even with new washers on the delivery bolt, I had a small leak after putting on the new tank.

Also, find a friend when you install a gas tank. Huge PITA to do solo in the driveway.
