I am looking at a tired 1995 Land Cruiser with a lot of Overlanding Mods over the years. With ~250K miles, it is getting a bit tired and weak. Part of my price negotiation is understanding my repower options, either an OEM-ish direct swap or a conversion to something like a small block domestic USA option, or some sort of diesel. Auto or Manual transmission with an engine swap is an option as well.

I hear about the Cummins 2.8L Diesels, but other than an old school Ford Broncos, those seem super spendy with things like vacuum lines, and possibly gasoline engine-related "electric or electronic" stuff.

Who around the DFW, Texas area would be my better options for general Land Cruiser support and maintenance? What sort of complexity and price range are repower options in today's formerly tariffed and high-inflation environment am I looking at today?

TIA,
Sid

Rebuild $10-$18k
Swap $15-$40k
I’d also consider shipping the vehicle. On larger jobs like this, another $500-$1000 to send it to a preferred shop isn’t a big deal.
