Hello,
I’m new to the forum and new to Toyota’s.
I have a 1992 Toyota 4x4 ext cab, 3.0 motor, with an automatic transmission.
My problem is my transfer case leaks when placed in four wheel drive.
Does the transmission provide fluid to the transfer case when in four wheel drive?
I ask this because it looks like tranny fluid.
Is this a common problem with these? Any ideas how to diagnose the problem?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, on the automatics, specifically the A340 series which you should have, the fluid is shared.

If you ever decide to swap in a 5 speed let me know. There isn't much to it, except getting over having to shift, and a lot less pain and loss of power with the auto.

You have the a340h, it is the ONLY toyota trans where the t-case runs on ATF, cause it works like an auto trans (valve body, clutches, etc...) it lets you shift on the fly. But no it does not share fluid with the auto trans.

Where is it leaking from. It is likely that it is leaking from the top. Back when I ran one of those, the seal between the trans and t-case went bad, so I would have to keep topping off the trans until the t-case was full to the top. I did this knowing I would eventually swap to a different drive train.

Edit, BTW there are a few a34Xx series trans's (4wd) the a340h is the only one like this.
